What You Will Learn
This webinar will introduce you to working with Sketchup and designing and creating simple kitchen layouts in this program. You will need to be generally familiar with how to draw simple shapes in Sketchup; there are some great "how-to", "getting started with Sketchup" courses on YouTube to get you up to speed prior to this session.
Everything in this webinar can be done without purchasing any paid Sketchup extensions. After you are familiar with how to design a simple kitchen in Sketchup, you may be interested in exploring some extensions that will make your workflow easier and faster. There are paid extensions that generate cabinet doors for you, help draw molding, offer tools for complex shape creation, and generate photo realistic renderings. Though I am not promoting this product, the Sketchup Extension warehouse is a great place to discover and try them out!
Suggested prerequisites:
- General working knowledge of Sketchup and ability to navigate through program using features such as simple shapes, grouping items and applying textures and layouts.
- Familiarity with NKBA Kitchen Design Standards and standard sizes of cabinetry, appliances, and fixtures.
At the end of this session you will:
- Create a room in Sketchup from dimensions and/or sketch walls, windows, doors, floor and ceiling.
- Place appliances in a room using Sketchup Warehouse.
- Select textures via Sketchuptextureclub.com (free).
- Create and place cabinetry in a room.
- Add countertop, backsplash, and other finishing touches from Sketchup Warehouse.
- Transfer drawings to Sketchup Layout .
